GREEN BUILDING

Green building doesn’t necessarily mean solar panels and bamboo. While we think solar panels are great, there are many materials and techniques that can be used in a more traditional home that will make it more energy efficient and more comfortable while also being more environmentally friendly.

If you are interested in lowering your carbon footprint, improving your home can make the biggest impact.

About 60% of the total energy consumption of the United States is used to heat and cool residences. A renovation that is focused on reducing energy usage is probably the easiest way to make an impact, while also lowering your monthly bills and improving your property values.

The biggest misconception about green building is that it involves using materials that are somehow magically beneficial to mother earth. In our opinion the greenest projects are the ones that will last the longest with the least amount of maintenance.  Currently, most residential construction is designed to last only 30 years, after which it is expected that it will be torn out and thrown away.  We can do better.
